Long-time OCIABC member to receive Rodney Adair Award: Communications Group to Honor Vancouver Technical Writer

JUNE 2005, PORTLAND, Ore. – The Oregon Columbia chapter of the International Association of Business Communicators (OCIABC) will present its highest award to Barbara Bryant at OCIABC’s annual banquet June 9.

Bryant has been a communications professional since 1986, when she began her career as a technical writer for a banking automation company in Seattle. Since then she has continually developed her skills as a corporate communicator in the banking and software fields. Most recently she worked as Manager of Technical Communications for CPDI in Vancouver, and she is currently working as a consultant in software documentation and training.

She has been active in OCIABC since 1998, serving as Vice President of Community Relations and Awards, Executive Vice President, Senior District Delegate, and President of the local chapter. During her term as OCIABC's president, the board of directors focused on outreach within the membership and out to the broader community. As a result, OCIABC implemented a scholarship program to help talented members develop their leadership opportunities. Through 2003 and in the past year, Barb has served in a variety of OCIABC volunteer roles, including a district judge of the international Gold Quill Awards for communications programs.

"Barb Bryant's selfless dedication to our professional association is a model for our members. She has been an energetic leader and it is exciting to be able to recognize her contribution with this important award. It is our way, too, of saying 'thank you,' " said Barbara M. Kommer, OCIABC president.

Adair Award
The Rodney Adair Memorial Award commemorates former OCIABC member Rodney Adair, who left the chapter with a legacy of active membership and dedicated service. The chapter created the award in 1980 following Adair’s tragic death in an automobile accident. It is the highest honor OCIABC can bestow on a member.
